Chema Padilla,
(Mexico City, 1986)
Chema Padilla is a self-taught musician and designer who puts together ephemeral technology and obsolete videogame consoles, old computers and printed material for the creation of multimedia collages. He uses glitch, coding and visual arts as his main techniques. Also he is the founder of various independent projects such as 56KBPS Records, Colectivo Chipotle, Format.DF and Diablero Records and he has taken part in diverse events in Mexico, USA, UK and Germany.
"The artwork of Chema Padilla is a symbolic leap that many are scared to take, and that's incredibly postponed. While the narrow, and exceded with "culture", conceptions for the artistic creation, the kind shock between the big names of Occidental art and the visual slang of informatics, cibernetics and popular culture engage in his artwork confronts us with a new world interpretation enriched by he machine, and it resolves the crisis of cultural belonging of an hyper-communicated contemporary life. Some of the intelectual critics that can be traced in the compositions of Padilla are in the path of disassembling the idea of the artist as an independent individual of the community; researching the limits of copyright and the absurd pretension of declaring exclusive property on an artistic object or celebrating the fragility of informatic imagery, which become sublime inside the unusual perspective that his artwork give us."
